There is no better time in Pennsylvania than the fall and apple season. I buy apples by the bushel to make apple pies (and freeze them to back off later), apple crisp, cider, and so much more. Apple picking with the kids…ahh, one of my favorite fall traditions.
Here is my go-to Homemade Apple Pie Recipe (no scrolling required 😉).
Apple Pie
• 1 recipe pastry for a 9 inch double crust pie
• ½ cup unsalted butter
• 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
• ¼ cup water
• ½ cup white sugar
• ½ cup brown sugar
•1-3 drops dōTERRA Cinnamon Bark essential oil
•1 tbsp vanilla
• apples – peeled, cored and sliced
Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
Melt the butter in a saucepan. Stir in flour to form a paste. Add water, white sugar, brown sugar, 1 drop of dōTERRA’s cinnamon eo, and bring to a boil. Reduce temperature and let simmer for 1 min.
Place the bottom crust in your pan. Mix the apples with the sugar and butter liquid and then pour the mixture into crusted pan. Put top crust on and and seal edges.
Bake 40-45 minutes in the preheated oven on middle shelf (as not to burn the top) until apples are soft or pie is bubbly.
Enjoy!
